90 Super Hard Minutes of Running!
Woke up a little after 5 am. My stomach was not happy with me. The Italian food I had yesterday at lunch raced through and I was not in good shape at the start of the morning. I made sure to eat and drink power bar and sports drink so that I was plenty full. Starting out was okay. I felt slow but not as sluggish. I pushed myself to get up the first hill. I felt good when I was at the top. I could see the sun raising over the mountains casting a beautiful color of orange and purple on the clouds. It was an amazing sight! It made it worth it to get up the first hill. As I started down the next hill, I was looking forward to the little break at the "aid station" However when I got to the park, I didn't see the aid station anywhere. I was disappointed, but remembered I had gatorade in my belt pack. It would have to do. There was one more slow steep hill which took all the energy out of me. I was thankful of the downhill part which helped me catch my breath. Throughout the run I tried to not look at my watch as much. It would just depress me. I was so wiped of energy at the 45 min. turn around mark. Although I was so happy I was turning around to go back. Only problem, there were three big hills to conquer in order for me to get back to the start. The first was was brutal, I don't know how I made it up. I gulped lots of gatorade and prepared to tackle the next hill. It was even tougher. I could see the Doggie's playing in the park next to the street. I felt like I may pass out. I took off my hat and felt a lot of relief. More gatorade and I was on my way back to the last hill. I got a surge of energy. I felt good and knew I could make it back. The energy lasted for about 10 minutes, but then the last hill came upon me. It seemed like it went on forever. I kept pushing and it didn't seem like I got anywhere. When I did get to the top, I felt exhausted and needed to slow down to a walk. I drank some gatorade and was thankful there were no more hills. Even though I was on level ground at the top of the hill, it felt like I was still climbing uphill. I was so frustrated, I just wanted to go downhill for a little bit. I don't know where the energy came from that got me back to the start, but I finally made it. I was very happy and exhausted. I drank a lot more gatorade and ate another power bar. Lots of stretching before I went home. Even though it was the toughest run, I felt like I accomplished a great obstacle. Throughout the rest of the day I felt very fatigued and didn't feel like standing or sitting. Laying down was the best. My body was trying it's best to repair itself. Then around 5 o'clock I got a surge of energy again. I felt great, so I started cleaning the condo.
